Want to make healthier choices for your body? Start first with changing your thoughts

“We become what we think about” When is the last time you looked in a mirror and liked what you saw.  We often have this inner dialogue that sounds like “I look so fat” or “I am to thin” or “I hate my …..”  We use harsh words to describe this amazing vessel that we are so privileged to live in.  A lot of us cannot imagine at anytime looking at another person and repeating these harsh words yet we know this happens also. We judge ourselves by the standard of others not realizing when we do we are contributing to that standard.  Our thoughts even if they are not expressed outwards towards others are creating more and more of what we think about.

If we stop and contemplate on this it is not hard to see that if we are constantly bombarding our mind with self deprecating thoughts how we can ever be motivated to make permanent changes.  When we do make changes through wilful perseverance we often end up with the same negative thoughts and end right back to unhealthy practices.

We understand that children blossom with positive reinforcement.  We forget that this is true for all of us.  The best and surest way to make changes in our lives is to fill up with gratitude and appreciation for the bodies we have in this moment.  Our bodies are amazing, most of us have the ability to touch, see, smell, hear, taste.  Even when some of these senses are lost our bodies have an incredible ability to adapt and increase the other senses.

Whether we are 400lbs or 100lbs, no matter who we see in the mirror when we reinforce our own thoughts of being worthy of healthier choices this will increase our joy and passion for life. Therefore we will shift in the way we take care of our bodies.  When we do we give all those around us the same message.

It is time to be a mirror for this next generation that our bodies are sacred and worthy of acceptance and healthier choices, we can begin with changing our thoughts about ourselves and others.   We are truly guided by our mind.

What thought can you change today about your body?

Walking on the beach, metaphors for life.

I feel so blessed to live so close to the ocean.  I am a 15 min walk to a beautiful beach that has some of the highest tides in the world.  Because our tides raise up and down over 5 meters every 6 hours our shore line is always changing.  Each time I walk there I never know what I will find!

I marvel at the tide pools as they change places and how each one of them although hold the same tiny crustaceans they bend and shift as nature dictates.  The water is so still and mirrors a perfect reflection of the sky and yet in 6 hours they will once again be apart of the vast ocean.  To take hold of this gentle wisdom and to remember that if I let go and be held by Mother Nature’s ebb and flow that I too will be brought back to pools of stillness.

The waves shift and sculpt the land each time, there are sometimes huge amounts of rocks that are hard to manoeuvre and other times there is nothing but smooth sand that you can walk with your eyes closed and never worry about tripping.  I understand there are times in my life when I need my eyes wide open and vulnerable to see what I may not want to see. All those rocks can sometimes frightened me and keep me from moving forward, I have come to understand that these are some of my greatest teachers.  Each time I trust these place’s and step on one rock at a time I am then guided forward where I am only ever tripped by my own ignorance.  Eventually I make my way back on smooth sand once again.

Also there are small streams everywhere that come from a small march at low tide, they seep underground through the rocks and sand to make there way back to the collective ocean from which they were birthed.  It is fun in the winter time to find pathways around them and at times I will even challenge myself to jump over them trying so hard not to get my feet wet and cold!  I love how they teach me perseverance, no matter what my journey seems to be I can always make my way back to God.

I love how the birds flock all round reminding me of flight, although we were not given physical wings we are reminded our wings are in our thoughts, words and actions.  Each time we rise up to a higher consciousness we are given new wings.  Wings of love, compassion, forgiveness and inspiration!  Each bird seems to know that all is right with the world.  They bring me that peaceful thought and inspire me to take flight.

Today let nature remind us of how precious our lives are and how amazingly resilient our planet is… but also to be reminded that we are part of it and how we treat our mother earth reflects directly back to us.  Our world need for all of us to take off our blinders and to see with new eyes! Take time today to say a prayer for a shift into a higher consciousness for all of us.  It is time to be the change.     www.sacredsharing.ca

Do you really want to make changes in your life? What are your excuses today not to?

Simple little question’s or are they?  Excuses are great friends when we don’t want to follow through with things we are committed to do, either to others and mostly to ourselves.  Or are they like that friend we keep staying in touch with that we have long out grown because they are familiar.

Excuses are the very thing that can create a distortion on our path. They give us permission to give up or give in to the lower version of ourselves.  You know the one, the part of us that is only half alive and just barely getting through each day.   We all claim to have aspirations yet we continually put obstacles in the way.

Until we are willing to see our excuses for what they are we will continue to get more of the same. Then of course we can have the excuse that life just keeps feeding us all this crap and of course how can we move forward!  :)

I invite us to stop today and look when we hear ourselves coming up with an excuse, what ever it is, why we are not getting enough sleep, not eating the right food, why we keep procrastinating getting that important work done or why we have not followed through with that dream that has been calling to us for a long long time.

Ask yourself today “Do I really want to make changes in my life?”
